With the advent of FM21 I have decided to put aside my beloved FM14 and move with the times. It’s time to move away from safety and head off into the unknown. With that in mind, my first playpen will feature the Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus.
In the interest of creating a narrative, only fake players will feature in this adventure. This will allow the creation of a compelling backstory, complete with drama and intrigue, yet free of any reference to any real people.
The Known World
Only these nations are loaded, thanks to the fine work done by Timo. I toyed with including the surrounding nations of Poland, Ukraine and Russia, but in the end opted against this. This is going to be a lower league battle in the relative backwater of the Baltic States.
There are a number of options of leagues to manage in. The limited pool of nations is a challenge, and I doubt I will be challenging for European glory any time soon. All of these nations play summer football with their seasons running from February to November each year.
Estonia is the northern most nation of the four with the smallest population. The big teams are MTÜ Jalgpalliklubi FC Flora, FCI Levadia Tallinn, and MTÜ Nõmme Kalju FC.
To the south is Latvia. This former Soviet colony features Riga FC, FK RFS, and Valmiera FC amongst its top sides.
Lithuania is the second bigest nation in the region, and is as big as Estonia and Latvia combined. Its notable sides are Valmiera FC, Sūduva Marijampolė, and FK Riteriai.
Belarus is not officially part of the Baltic States. It has been included to round out the region and provide a superpower in the area. It won’t be a primary target for me to manage in. The undisputed champions are BATE Borisov who won the Vyšejšaja Liha for 13 seasons in a row, before being upset by Dynamo Brest last season.
I have started out with a Sunday League background and a National A Licence. It seemed reasonable that I would have some qualifications before I opted to head to the other side of the world in search of work.
